Thanksgiving
OK, again, it has been a long time since I've updated...
So, what is new?
About a month ago Denise's friend Laurie came for a visit with her boyfriend Rob. They live in Portland, Oregon (see where it is here ). They came during Thanksgiving weekend (October 10th), which is on a different date in Canada and in the US. Also, Oktoberfest is taking place on the same weekend (and the whole week) in Waterloo (the city where Denise grew up). It is German festival of drinking pretty much.
They arrived on Friday and stayed until Monday, short but sweet. We spent some really nice time together in Toronto. Went for some nice walks to the market and around the city, to the Island (Denise went for the first time) and spent time at home playing games, eating good cheeses and drinking wine.
On Saturday afternoon Denise and I drove to Waterloo to have thanksgiving dinner with Denise's family, after which we went to one of the Oktoberfest events. It was full of very young people with very long lines. We were supposed to meet one of Denise's friends there but she enver showed up, so after about two hours we head back to her parents and went to bed.
Sunday we woke up early and drove back to Toronto in time for brunch with Laurie and Rob.
Rob is a lobbyist for union, which means he tries to promote agendas on behalf of the union. It was really interesting talking politics with him, I hope to go visit in Portland and see the process in action.
What else? Denise and I are very interested in Social Innovation these days. I will leave it to Denise to describe soon. But we go to a lecture series about entrepreneurship (“YAZAMUT” in Hebrew) and are interested in the social side of things.
My defense date will probably be in January. I am a little bit scared about what I'm going to do afterward. I just don't feel like much right now.
Last weekend was Halloween. We went to a concert on Friday night with some friends. It is actually a show, a really interesting one, Denise's favourite! It is hard to explain what it is about actually. It is called “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” and it is about a boy who wants to leave East Germany so he goes through a sex change operation to get married, then becomes a rock star etc. It is a weird show.
I hope Denise will write about it soon.
Hugs,
Yoav
