T-shirts and movies
OK,
First post since we got back from the states. Not much excitement since, but a few things we did.
Last weekend we had some of our climbing friends over for T-shirt making party! We have been talking about having our own little climbing club, secret society. We are calling it "The Fine Line" because when you climb, the route you do is called "a line", the way the rock goes. And "fine" means something pretty. Also, to walk a lone may mean to balance different things, which is a lot like climbing. So, the fine line, or team fine line. I prefer "The Fine Line". Anyway, our friend Janice have been making t-shirts prints for some time now, it is pretty easy but we never did it before. So finally, after long waiting and much organization we got together at our place. We had Dave, Jess, Ben, Janice, Denise and myself. Janice explained how to the process goes and we all got into work. Basically, you draw what you want to have on the t-shirt. Then you copy it onto a plastic sheet, then you cut the plastic along your design so you have a stencil. once this is ready, you glue it to the shirt using a special spray and then you put your paint over the stencil and you have your print! Last step is to heat the shirt up so that the paint "sets" and becomes a part of the fabric. Voila! Your own shirt!
So on we went. Dave decided to skip the whole process and just free-hand draw on the shirt with a paintbrush. He did great job at it! Janice draw fast and furious while Ben, Jess and I were looking at climbing magazines for some inspiring pictures. Denise were drawing in the room.
Ben finally found his ideal climber and drew it on but Jess and I were clueless, we are the least artistic in the gang and it took us a while to get our fingers moving with the pencil. Janice was almost done by the time I just started. Anyway, drawing was hard but cutting the plastic proved to be an easier task for me. Denise had a good drawing (the best of all in my opinion) but had a hard time with the cutting. I had to help her out.
Anyway, long story short, we all have our shirts. We didn't take a group picture yet but I got a few of Denise and I.
Also, this week (today) the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) started. We went to see one Canadian movie which was pretty good. They started a new program this year called "city to city" in which they choose a city around the world to have a focus on their movies. This year, the first year, they chose Tel-Aviv! Of course, the usual "controversy" around putting Israel in focus started with a letter by some artists saying they don't want to participate in a festival that supports "Israeli apartheid" etc etc. It is getting ridiculous but also scary to what level the Palestinians are organized.
Anyway, we are going to see one of the Tel-Aviv movie next week. I will write about it afterward.
