Sushi with Gillian and Ken
Last night Gillian, one of Denise's best friends was in town. She used to live in New York with her boyfriend Ken but they are both on their way to Buenos Aires for one year. They decided to take a year off and relax while learning Spanish and tango. So they drove up here before they fly south to say goodbye and take care of business. As recently became out habit, we made sushi and had some good wine and cheese to go with it!

I just finished reading an interesting book, 'Lament for a nation'. It was written in 1965 and discusses the disappearance of Canada as a nation in the age of progress. The main idea of it is that in times of scientific and technological progress human capitalistic pursuit leads to a homogeneous society in which there is no space for national identity. He goes on the review different policies in Canadian recent history, how they were received, were they successful and how they ended up. Interesting read which is as relevant these days as in 1965 and not only for Canada but for Israel as well. When Denise is done with Altnoyland I hope she will read this one.
On a different note, I have recently learned that Denise is an excellent skipper! Not the boat-handling kind of skipper but a rope skipper. When I work out a home I usually warm up with 10-15 minutes of skipping and two nights ago when Denise got home she joined in. We had a fun skip-a-thon!
